Purpose of the position: 

To provide specialised, technical support within the ACC’s national criminal intelligence  Advanced Capabilities Unit to provide services and support to the fusion capability and others as required, according to changing geographical, organisational and operational requirements in cooperation with partner agencies.

Key objectives of the position: 

The principal accountabilities and responsibilities will include:

  • Responsibility for approved projects under direction of the Manager, Advanced Capabilities
  • Lead the development and integration of approved projects within the scope of the Fusion Capability, specifically via the Advanced Capabilities Unit.
  • Contribute to the development of policy and procedures as they pertain to the relevant projects.
  • Retrieve, interpret and provide specific types of cyber intelligence and evidence to relevant teams.
  • Provide accurate, professional, expert advice to all stakeholders and customers.
  • Liaise with, collaborate and advance working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote information sharing where needed.
  • Identify emerging technology to assess the impact and implications on the agency's ability to counter its utility for serious and organised crime.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of computer networks and equipment, and maintain process and continuity records as required.
  • Work as part of a highly motivated small specialist team within the broader fusion capability, managing resources and providing specialist outputs for the ACC.

Key Selection Criteria: 

The following are the specific Selection Criteria for the role of the Senior Specialist – Advanced Capabilities:

  1. Experience with, and extensive technical knowledge of, numerous computer and mobile operating systems, communications and modern network and data systems.
  2. Knowledge, experience and/or relevant tertiary qualifications in relation to computer science, computer and/or network security. 
  3. Computer programming experience in contemporary language/s.
  4. Proven contemporary technical skills in the area of accessing, analysing and/or interpreting transient and/or non-transient data.
  5. Contemporary operational, and/or software development and testing experience in technical intelligence collection techniques gained in a law enforcement or similar sensitive environment.
  6. Experience in working within legislated boundaries, with an understanding of the ACC’s purpose and legislative environment, relevant to this position.
  7. Ability to self manage and work as part of the ACC multi-disciplined team environment.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications at a bachelor degree level.
