Information for applicants

Introduction

This document has been prepared to help you apply for advertised general vacancies at the ACC.

The following information should be read in conjunction with the duty statement, selection criteria and general application form. Any further information required should be sought from the contact officer before the application is submitted.

In this document you will find information about eligibility, the selection process and how to prepare a statement of claims.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for these positions you must be:

  • an Australian citizen, if you are not an Australian citizen, but a permanent resident, please provide evidence of when you expect to obtain citizenship
  • prepared to undergo a rigorous security assessment and meet and maintain the required standard
  • prepared to undergo a medical assessment (the duty statement will advise if this is required) and meet the required standard.

Applicants may not be engaged if they have recently received a redundancy benefit from an Australian Public Service (APS) agency or a non-APS Commonwealth employer. Effective 1 March 2009, the period of exclusion from engagement (or ‘redundancy benefit period’) will now be linked to the level of the redundancy benefit received by an individual. The ‘redundancy benefit period’ is to be calculated by dividing the amount of the person’s redundancy benefit (gross amount in dollars) by the person’s weekly salary that was used to calculate the benefit. Other amounts that a person might receive on separation, such as payment for accrued entitlements and payment in lieu of notice of termination, are not taken into account when calculating the redundancy benefit period. For more information about eligibility following receipt of redundancy from an APS agency, please contact the Recruitment team at recruitment@crimecommission.gov.au.

Mandatory qualifications

Some advertised vacancies will have mandatory qualification requirements and these will be advised in the selection documentation. Evidence of qualifications will be requested by the selection panel at the time of interview or by the Recruitment team upon your engagement.

Merit

All ACC selections are based on merit. Section 10 (2) of the Public Service Act 1999 defines a decision relating to engagement or promotion being merit based if all the following criterion are met:

  • an assessment is made of the relative suitability of the applicants for the duties, using a competitive selection process
  • the assessment is based on the relationship between the applicants work-related qualities genuinely required for the duties
  • the assessment focuses on the relative capacity of the applicants to achieve outcomes related to the duties
  • the assessment is the primary consideration for making the decision.

Privacy

The ACC understands and respects the right to privacy. The information provided in job applications will only be used for the selection exercise and related procedures.
