Our organisation
The ACC is a dynamic and flexible organisation that collects and disseminates criminal intelligence and undertakes criminal investigations with and for our partners. Our work priorities are set by the ACC Board.
The ACC is a national agency with offices in the ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, VIC and WA.
Our governance
To ensure the appropriate management and accountability of the ACC, it is governed by the:
- Minister for Home Affairs
- Inter-Governmental Committee on the ACC
- Parliamentary Joint Committee on the ACC
- ACC Board.
Our structure
The ACC has three directorates:
- Serious Organised Crime—delivering criminal intelligence and investigation services
- People and Business Support—providing key enabling services to the ACC including people management, legal, ICT and finance
- Performance and Stakeholder Relations—providing advice and assistance to the agency via strategic policy, communications and media, and business reporting.

Our history
The ACC commenced operations on 1 January 2003. It has its origins in the April 2002 Leaders Summit which agreed that a new national framework was needed to meet the challenges of combating terrorism and multi-jurisdictional crime. The ACC replaced the National Crime Authority, the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence and the Office of Strategic Crime Assessments to become Australia’s national criminal intelligence and investigation agency.
